How the 2026 knockout bracket works
For the first time the World Cup has a Round of 32: the 12 group winners, 12 runners-up and the 8 best third-placed teams all advance. Group winners cannot meet another group winner before the Round of 16. Slots labeled like "3ABCDF" are filled by a best-third team from one of those groups once the group stage ends on June 27.
